What is an ‘oizys’
Oizys isn’t a what; it is a who, or more precise: Oizys is an goddess
According to wikipedia, Oizys is the following:
In Greek mythology, Oizys, Oïzys (/ˈoʊ.ɪ.zɪs/; Ancient Greek: Ὀϊζύς) is the goddess of Misery. She is the daughter of Nyx, the goddess of night and the twin of the god Momos. Her Latin name is Miseria, from which the English word ‘misery’ is derived.
So why is this site called that? Back in highschool I loved the stories about the greek and roman periods. About the only time I got a high mark in history :P. When I started using Linux I needed to name the machines I had, I started using the names of strong women. My first linux machine was called Xena, my current one I use Kahlan, my servers are called Cara and Noroelle. Mijn laptop is called Mara. All strong women. But when I needed to name my domain, I started to go back to the old greeks. So that’s why this site is called Oizys.
But, because it’s a minor goddess, I can’t seem to find any pictures of statues of her. So, because I want to have a picture with every posting, the image which is display here is from her mother, Nyx.
