Crashing, halting, freezing. Ubuntu was not right on my ION board and I couldn’t understand why. The pc was working fine before I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 from 14.10, but after this upgrade it to freeze after random periods. I tested the memory with memtest+, I changed the powersetup; nothing was working. So I started looking at Ubuntu itself. It had just upgraded so looking which packages had changed and reverting those wasn’t a real option.

At first I suspected the bumblebee package, but that seemed to be a dud. After a lot of creative googling I found out something was wrong with the driver of the Intel i915 driver. This seems to be fixed in kernel 4.0, which isn’t really in Ubuntu just yet (or backported). Fortunately I found this bugreport which pointed me to the kernel bug. After installing 4.0 and rebooting it seems the problem was gone. Off course your mileage may vary ;)
